On the digital easel this week

This marks the first of what I hope to be an ongoing series of posts highlighting what I’ve been working on each week.

The good, the bad and the downright ugly.

One thing I’ve found to be true is that EVERY creation goes through its ugly phase. That’s the point where you wonder why you ever thought you could do this thing called art. Frustration follows. But if you keep going, eventually something worthwhile starts to emerge. Not always, but most of the time. Sometimes you just have to scrap it and start over.

As part of my Beyond the Brushes membership, I was recently introduced to digital charcoal drawing. Perhaps stemming from my love of black and white photography, I’ve really enjoyed learning this new medium.

While my journey is still in its early stages, I’ve been working this week on drawing portraits and then blending them with mixed media elements.

Here is the progression from photo to drawing to mixed media….
