Art from the heart: letting go

About 4 years ago I decided to abandon my career in the tourism industry and pursue a creative life. I had no real plan, but a definite idea of what I DIDN’T want in my life anymore – and that was hours and hours (and HOURS) sitting in aircraft seats heading to or from business events; more meetings; yet another conference. You get the picture. Don’t get me wrong, it was a fun job as jobs go. But I guess I just grew tired of putting my energy towards someone else’s dream. It was time to put it towards my own dream.

However, as often happens, things didn’t quite go as planned. I’m reminded of the John Lennon lyric about life happening while you’re busy making other plans.

Sometimes s**t just happens. Stuff that’s so out of left field and so beyond your control that you keep wondering when you’ll wake up.

Suddenly you find yourself in a place you had no idea you were heading.

If we look at it the right way, I believe those times, although sometimes intensely painful and difficult, eventually prove to be a treasure trove for the creative soul.

And once the storm is over, you won’t remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won’t even be sure, whether the storm is really over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the storm, you won’t be the same person who walked in.
That’s what this storm’s all about.
— Haruki Murakami

Murakami-san captures it perfectly.

After 4 years of life in the storm and the loss of someone I cared for deeply, I finally feel like there is a light in the distance. I honestly thought some days I would never find it. But there it is….shining.

And today I happened upon this quote by Alisha Fridland and it so resonated with me that I felt compelled to create some art around it.
